Ryan Christie savours Scotland revenge mission after win over Ireland

RYAN CHRISTIE savoured revenge over the Republic of Ireland as Scotland took another step towards Nations League glory.

Steve Clarke's side bounced back from their drubbing in Dublin earlier this year with a crucial 2-1 success that puts Scotland just 90 minutes away from a play-off berth.

Jack Hendry brought the hosts level before Christie converted from the spot in the closing stages to set Clarke's side up for their clash with Ukraine.

And Christie was delighted to make amends as Scotland had to dig deep to overcome a resilient Irish outfit at Hampden.

Christie said: "It is a big win. We came into the game desperate to win for a number of reasons and we wanted to come away from this camp with three wins.

"We obviously started on Wednesday night with one and I think the bigger factor was what happened in Dublin in the summer. We wanted to put that right.

"We felt we let ourselves down and the fans down over there and we wanted to put that right and thankfully we did.

"Listen, [we had revenge on our minds] a little bit. It was frustrating after that game, it was a disappointing summer and we all felt that when we came away from it.

"That is why we wanted to flip it on its head in this camp and try and pick up some positive results. Two from two, we can't ask more than that and we go again on Tuesday.

"I think first half we found it tough to control the game and, to be fair, they played out well like they did over there.

"We had to make a few tweaks at half-time but we came out and fought our way back into the game and even towards the end the boys were defending, the subs that came on did brilliant and McGinn right to the death keeping that ball in the corner.

"Brilliant. Lots of confidence to take from this again and we go onto Tuesday now."
