Chris Sutton has credited Celtic for keeping their foot on the gas as they thumped Aberdeen 5-1 to extend their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to 16 points.
Brendan Rodgers’ side showed no signs of complacency at Celtic Park on Tuesday night, with a dominant display ensuring an emphatic victory.
Aberdeen had a few early chances to trouble Celtic, but once Daizen Maeda opened the scoring in the 25th minute, the Hoops took full control. Jota, Callum McGregor, and Hyun-Jun Yang all found the net before Maeda got his brace in second-half stoppage time.
Sutton was quick to praise the Hoops’ mentality despite their commanding position in the title race.
“A lot to admire about this Celtic team,” he said on X. “Everyone saying the league is over, yet the team have to go out and perform. Not at their best in the first half, but ruthless finishing was the difference.”
The former Celtic striker also highlighted the performance of Arne Engels, who was voted man of the match after providing two assists.
“Engels excellent,”Sutton added, before singling out Maeda’s tireless work rate: “Maeda is the fittest player in the universe.”
