Ruthie Henshall's first appearance in Coronation Street as West End legend joins soap

West End legend Ruthie Henshall is set to swap the stage for the cobbles as she rocks up Coronation Street next week.

The actress, 56, will take on the guest stint as Estelle, a fellow cruise singer and friend of Glenda Shuttleworth.

Glenda, played by Jodie Prenger, has been helping Daisy Midgeley cope with her stalker ordeal.

Viewers will first meet Ruthie's character Estelle when she has a run-in with Glenda’s brother, George Shuttleworth, about the cost of her mother’s funeral.

Drama could be coming her way as George, played by Tony Maudsley, and Todd Grimshaw show tricky customer Estelle out of the funeral home.

She quickly bumps into old friend Glenda, where the pair reminisce about their time on cruise ships.

Estelle will then reveal she is the co-owner of a performing arts club and tries to talk Glenda into buying into the franchise, Little Big Shotz.

The offer sparks drama in Weatherfield as George offers to step in and help fund the new venture for his sister.

“Everyone is so welcoming and I can’t believe, after years of the Street being in my life, that I finally get to tread the cobbles.

“Getting to act with Jodie was a joy and every member of the cast was welcoming and kind.

“Estelle is delighted to find her old friend Glenda and share a show tune or two to remember times spent entertaining on board cruises.

“I am so excited and delighted to be on the Street where so many brilliant actors strut, and have strutted, their stuff.”
