Rutherglen Glencairn use old players' network to snap up midfielder

Rutherglen Glencairn used their old players’ network to net former Aberdeen and Ayr United midfielder Craig Murray from Lowland League side Cumbernauld Colts.

The 27-year-old was vice-captain at Colts, but decided to leave them after six years at Broadwood.

Delighted Glencairn boss Willie Harvey said: “Cumbernauld Colts didn’t want to lose Craig, but he decided to leave and we were fortunate enough that he’s friends with an ex-player of ours, Brett Agnew.

“Brett, who is down south, phoned me about him and we were able to jump the gun before anybody else knew about him.

“Craig is an ex-senior player, he played with Aberdeen and Ayr United, and he was at Cumbernauld Colts for six years but he’s only 27.

“He’s a very good player and organiser, so hopefully he’ll bring us something to midfield."

Harvey added: "He’s got experience and if he talks, players maybe listen.

“One of the things that attracted us to him was that he was a good organiser on the park.

“When he came in to training we noticed straight away how quickly he was starting to talk, telling players where to be and what to do, so hopefully that will progress as he gets fitter.

“He’s still maybe not match-fit, because he hadn’t played for a few weeks but we’re delighted to get him in.”
