Fuming Willie Harvey says Rutherglen Glencairn got exactly what they deserved as Drumchapel United beat- them 2-0 in the Strathclyde Demolition Cup semi-final on Saturday.
First-half goals from Alec Docherty and Joe Coleman put the West of Scotland Conference C leaders into the final, and Harvey and his management team locked the dressing room door for 30-45 minutes to let their players know their thoughts, in no uncertain terms.
He said: “We thoroughly got what we deserved. We didn’t deserve anything from the game.
“We didn’t show up, nobody performed, didn’t listen to what they were told, and I was just very disappointed in my team.
“It’s not often I’ll come on and criticise my players but they know themselves that they let the club down, they let themselves down.
“They know how me, Joe Pryce and Stevie Hutchison feel about it; we had them in the dressing room for a good 30 to 45 minutes after it.
“Drumchapel deserved the game, we deserved nothing from the game because of the way we approached it and that’s what we got – absolutely nothing, it’s what we deserved.”
Harvey says Glens had chances in the second half, but it would have been a “fallacy” had they taken anything from the game.
“When things don’t go your way they go against you and that seemed to be the way of it,” he said.
“In the first half myself and Joe were chatting, we were comfortable and quite happy to get in at 1-0, because we could change things about.
“But we got a corner right on the 45th minute, took it, and before we knew it, the ball was up at the other end, they got a corner and it’s 2-0 before half-time.
“We’ll have a chat about it. I’m a big believer that what has gone on is in the past and you can’t do anything about it, so you move on and we have to take the positives from it.
“In the second half we did create chances, but we didn’t manage to take any of them.
“We could probably have got something out of the game, but we didn’t deserve to, so it would have been a bit of a fallacy, to be honest.”
United now face either St Cadoc’s or Vale of Clyde in the cup final at the end of next month.
