Willie Harvey says Rutherglen Glencairn are crying out for home comforts in the West of Scotland League First Division.
But they’re only scheduled to be at the Hamish B. Allan Stadium club twice in their next seven league matches.
One of those is now against Thorniewood United on January 7, with scheduled opponents Drumchapel United instead playing a rearranged West of Scotland Cup second round clash, from last weekend’s swathes of postponements.
Glens have only been at home five times since the league kicked off on July 30, and only had that advantage once in October and August.
But he says it will now be a battle to get games on, due to harsh winter weather.
Harvey said: “Unfortunately every time a draw gets made in the cup we end up away from home and nine times out of 10 it’s on a Saturday when we were meant to be at home in the league.
“We’ve only had one league game at home in the past three or four weeks, against Neilston.
“People keep asking me how come we’re doing so well in the cup but not in the league, and it’s because we’re not really playing any league games.
“Hopefully if we can keep the players strong and fit we’ll get a wee run in things and start to climb the league.
“It would have been ideal to get a few games in between now and the new year, but looking at the weather that’s coming in, there’s a chance the next two games could be off. We’re in the minuses and parks are frozen.”
Glencairn won their second round clash 3-1 against Renfrew, and Harvey is just pleased to get the game on, so they don’t need to reschedule more.
He said: “We were down to play Drumchapel United, but there are cup ties that were cancelled on Saturday.
“They’ve looked to see who is still available, Thorniewood are one of them, and they’ve given us them at home, which is ideal.
“That means the rest of them don’t get another game on top of us in the league and we’re not another game behind.”
Harvey takes his side to Blantyre Vics on Saturday for a clash against a club he was previously manager of, but says there will be no old-pals act.
He said: “I’m going back to old friends. There are a lot of people there that I’m still very friendly with, and I get on really well with, but hopefully I can get on well with them before and after the game!
“There are no friends in football during the game. After the game you can be the best of pals, but during the game it doesn’t matter.”
