Rutherglen Glencairn appoint new manager after Willie Harvey exit

Rutherglen Glencairn have appointed Joe Pryce as their new manager, following Willie Harvey's decision to step down from the role earlier in the week.

Pryce was assistant to Harvey and worked alongside him for the last 13 years at Glens. He now steps up the role of manager, where he will be assisted by former East Kilbride manager Billy Ogilvie.

Harvey stepped down following the club's Junior Cup final defeat to Cumnock on June 2, but he had decided to leave the role before the showpiece game on health grounds, as he is still suffering with the after-effects of a life-threatening battle with Covid back in September 2021.

The Glens have also announced that Stevie Hutchison will remain at the club as their goalkeeping coach as the club prepares for another season in the West of Scotland League First Division.

A club statement read: "We are delighted to announce that Joe Pryce has been appointed as the new First Team Manager of Rutherglen Glencairn Football Club with immediate effect.

"Joe, a former Glencairn player, has been in The Glens' dugout for the past 13 years alongside previous manager Willie Harvey. Joe was initially first team coach, before stepping up to be Assistant Manager in August 2015. Joe has been trained in coaching to UEFA 'B' licence level, and has a wealth of knowledge of the game at this level as well as a long connection and a deep affection for the club.

"We are also pleased to confirm that Billy Ogilvie will step up to the role of Assistant Manager. Billy joined the club last summer as first team coach, and has vast experience in management and coaching at various levels in the Scottish football pyramid.

"Billy holds a UEFA 'A' coaching licence, which will greatly assist with the club's ongoing compliance to Scottish FA Membership criteria.

"We are also pleased to confirm that Stevie Hutchison will remain at the club as Goalkeeping Coach. Stevie joined the club in 2017 and has been a constant support in the background to the management of the club both on and off the park.

"We look forward to watching the new management team as they get to work in shaping the playing squad for season 2023-24, and more information on that will follow as soon as possible."
