Ruth Langsford shocked Loose Women viewers on Tuesday when she revealed that husband Eamonn Holmes had broken his shoulder after a nasty fall at home, just days after an operation to aid his long suffering health battle.
Over the Christmas period, TV veteran Eamonn offered an update on his issues on Twitter, telling fans that it was 'soul destroying' to have to rely on others to help with things he used to take for granted. That candid admission came after his year long struggle with chronic pain, which left him needing to use a walking stick when he and wife Ruth came To the end of their stint as stand-in This Morning presenters last year.
There was further concern for Eamonn when he was noticeably absent from a post Ruth made on Instagram about what she'd been up to at Christmas, with fans requesting some assurances that he was alright. And, as she made her return to host the first live Loose Women of this year, Ruth revealed the extent of Eamonn's health woes and the startling news he'd fallen down the stairs and broken his shoulder.
Taking time to address people's concerns at the start of the show, Ruth said: "I've been absolutely fine, it's Eamonn. It's no secret he'd been struggling with bulging discs, then he had a back operation which is always a nerve wracking moment and then a few days after that, he fell down the stairs and broke his shoulder.
She added: "So it's been a really difficult time, so I' took time of to be at home and look after him and then, very sadly, his mum passed away in the middle of all that, so it's been a terrible time."
Looking gutted for her, Loose Women co-star Carol McGiffin replied: "Well Ruth, 2023 can't get any worse, so onwards and upwards," with Ruth then adding that Eamonn was 'on the mend.'
