Bettors across the country breathed a sigh of relief Saturday after Rutgers found a last-second way to make the wagers pay off.
On 4th-and-29 with 53 seconds to go, Scarlet Knights quarterback Gavin Wimsatt threw an inexplicable Hail Mary all the way to the end zone to wideout Shameen Jones for a touchdown.
The score didn’t help Rutgers close the gap on Michigan State, but it did help them match the +10 spread the team entered Saturday’s game with.
Rutgers losing 27-21 didn’t do Scarlet Knight fans much good, but sportsbooks might’ve been the biggest loser after betters cashed in on the last-minute score.

This was quite a way for bettors to have their faith in Rutgers covering the spread rewarded.
In fact, they might be more favorable to throw more cash on Rutgers in the future if they emerge as a good bet for the rest of the season.
