PHUKET: A search is continuing for a 53-year-old Russian woman who went missing from her accommodation in Thalang district on Thursday, officials said on Saturday evening.

Elena Rusradchenko was last seen near Naithon beach not far from her accommodation in tambon Sakhu on Thursday. She appeared to look absent-minded. A missing person report was filed with local police on Friday.

About 100 people had been mobilised in the search effort, both on land and in the sea, said Bancha Thanu-in, chief of Thalang district. Searchers were divided into teams to look along the beach and rocks. Three boats also traced parallel courses along the coast, about 2-3 kilometres from shore.

However, the search teams found no traces, said the district chief. The search will resume on Sunday morning.

Navy officers and marine police were also taking part in the search operation, said Anuparb Rodkwan-Yodrabam, the deputy governor of Phuket.

Anyone who has information about the missing woman is urged to alert authorities via the tambon Sakhu administration organisation at 076-328-146, 082-535-0069, or the Sakhu police station at 076-328-121.
