A 57-year-old Russian woman who managed to stow away on a Delta Air Lines flight from New York to Paris is set to return to the United States on Tuesday, as confirmed by a French airport official. The woman successfully bypassed multiple security checkpoints at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York and boarded a plane to Paris.
According to reports, the woman was initially scheduled to return to the US on Saturday afternoon but was removed from the aircraft by French authorities after causing a disturbance by screaming. Witnesses on the flight mentioned that she expressed her reluctance to go back to the USA, stating that only a judge could compel her to return.
For her return journey, the woman will be accompanied by six US marshals on the flight back to New York. Meanwhile, authorities in the US are actively investigating how she was able to sneak onto the Delta flight without a ticket.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is preparing a civil case against the stowaway after reviewing security footage from JFK Airport. The TSA spokesperson mentioned that civil cases are opened when there is evidence of security procedure violations, although criminal charges are handled by the Justice Department.
Delta Air Lines has stated that they are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident but refrained from providing further details on how the woman managed to board the plane after passing the TSA checkpoint.
As the situation unfolds, the airline industry and security agencies are likely to review and enhance their protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.
