Microsoft has recently disclosed that Russian-state sponsored hackers have successfully breached their internal systems. The tech giant revealed that the cyberattack was carried out by a group known as Nobelium, which is believed to be linked to the Russian government.

The hackers gained access to Microsoft's systems through a compromised account belonging to a customer support agent. This allowed them to view the company's internal source code repositories, but Microsoft stated that there was no evidence of the code being altered or tampered with.

According to Microsoft, the attack was part of a broader campaign targeting various organizations, including government agencies, think tanks, consultants, and non-governmental organizations. The hackers used a variety of tactics, such as phishing emails and password spraying, to gain unauthorized access to their targets.

Microsoft emphasized that they take cybersecurity very seriously and are continuously working to enhance their security measures to protect against such threats. The company has also notified the affected customers and provided guidance on how to secure their systems and data.

This incident serves as a reminder of the persistent threat posed by state-sponsored hackers and the importance of robust cybersecurity practices. Organizations are advised to remain vigilant, implement strong security protocols, and educate their employees on how to recognize and respond to potential cyber threats.

As the investigation into the cyberattack continues, Microsoft has assured its customers that it is committed to transparency and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
