Russian rocket destroys Ukraine hospital as Volodymyr Zelensky condemns 'inhumane' attack

Ukraine's civilian infrastructure has once again been hit by Russian bombs, killing and hospitalising multiple people including children.

Two children, aged three and six, have been hospitalised after a missile hit a medical facility in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced in his presidential address that one person has been killed and a further 23 were injured.

He said: "Russian terrorists once again confirm their status of fighters against everything humane and honest.

"My condolences to the family of the deceased.

"We must defeat these inhumans irrevocably and as soon as possible. Because our time is our people. And our people are the most precious thing in Ukraine."

Videos from the scene show the psychological and veterinary clinic completely engulfed in flames with civilians wandering through covered in blood and looking dazed.

The regional governor of Dnipropetrovsk has said that a 69-year-old man was killed in the strike.

Mr Lysak wrote on Telegram: "Already 23 victims in Dnipro. 21 are in the hospital, and three of them are 'heavy'. A 69-year-old man was killed. He was just passing by when a Russian terrorist rocket hit the city…

"As of this minute, rescuers managed to localise the fire in the medical facility. Extinguishing continues."

The President's wife, Olena Zelenska wrote on Twitter: “Ukrainian medical facilities and civilian objects are again under attack. A terrible level of cynicism to hit a psychological dispensary in the Dnipropetrovs’k region with missiles. There are killed and wounded. My condolences to all those who suffered from this terrorist attack.”

Rescue operations and ongoing emergency services were at the scene.

Dnipro has continually been targeted by Russia, including an attack on a residential building in January that killed at least 46 people.

Also, a Russian S-300 missile hit a dam in the Karlivka district of Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk province, placing nearby settlements under threat of severe flooding.

Many people woke up to the sound of bombing as 10 missiles and 25 drones were launched by Russia and hit the capital Kyiv, the city of Dnipro and eastern regions, Ukrainian officials said.

The Ukrainian air force said it had shot down 10 missiles fired from the Caspian Sea, 23 Iranian-made Shahed drones and two reconnaissance drones.

It said a total of 17 missiles and 31 drones had been launched during the attacks, which started at about 10 pm local time on Thursday and continued until 5 am on Friday.
