Russian journalist killed in shelling in Kyiv

Russian journalist Oksana Baulina was killed in Russian shelling in Kyiv while she was reporting on the war in Ukraine. She was associated with investigative news outlet The Insider, the Indian Express reported.

Baulina had been documenting the damage done in the Podil district of the capital when she came under fire. The shelling also killed a civilian and injured two others who were working with the journalist during her assignment.

In a statement released on their website, The Insider said that it “expresses its deepest condolences to Oksana's family and friends”. “We will continue to cover the war in Ukraine, including such Russian war crimes as indiscriminate shelling of residential areas which result in the deaths of civilians and journalists,” it added.

According to NDTV, Baulina had previously worked with Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny for his anti-corruption group, and had to leave the country after Navalny’s foundation was declared “extremist” by state authorities. Following this, Baulina reported on corruption charges against the Russian government.

Earlier this month, documentary filmmaker Brent Renaud and two other journalists associated with Fox News – Pierre Zakrzewski and Oleksandra Kuvshynova – were also killed while covering the war in Ukraine.
