The ongoing conflict in Ukraine continues to escalate as Russian forces make advances on multiple fronts, putting pressure on Ukrainian forces in the Donetsk region. In recent days, intense fighting has been reported near the town of Lyman in the north, where Ukrainian military successfully repelled a Russian mechanized assault. Further south, Russian troops are encircling the hub of Pokrovsk, with assaults coming from both the east and south simultaneously. Despite this, Ukrainian forces managed a successful counter-attack south of the town.

According to Ukraine's General Staff, there were 74 Russian attacks reported on Wednesday, with a focus on the Pokrovsk direction. Both sides are engaged in tactical assaults to gain or retain control of territory, with Ukraine still holding some ground seized last summer in the Russian region of Kursk.

NATO officials have acknowledged the challenging nature of the conflict, noting significant loss of life on both sides. The US has expressed a strong desire to end the bloodshed, emphasizing the need for peace talks to resolve the situation.

Meanwhile, away from the frontlines, Russia continues to launch daily missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure. The Ukrainian military reported intercepting and destroying a significant number of drones launched by Russia, with 140 drones launched on Wednesday night, of which 137 were neutralized before reaching their targets. In response, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed to have intercepted and destroyed 83 Ukrainian drones overnight, with a significant number taken down over the Bryansk region.
