Recently, the Defense Ministry of Romania reported that debris believed to be from a Russian drone landed in a rural area of the country. This incident is the latest in a series of drone wreckage occurrences from the ongoing conflict in neighboring Ukraine that have reached Romanian territory.

Since the start of the war in February 2022, Romania has encountered drone fragments on its soil multiple times. The Defense Ministry identified the debris as originating from Russia and linked it to Russian attacks on Ukraine's port infrastructure near the border.

A team of specialists discovered the drone fragments in an uninhabited area near the village of Plauru in Tulcea county, situated across the Danube River from the Ukrainian port of Izmail. The finding followed Russian assaults on civilian targets and port facilities in Ukraine over the past two nights, prompting Romania to deploy warplanes to monitor its airspace.

The Defense Ministry strongly condemned the Russian attacks, denouncing them as unjustified and a serious violation of international law. In response to the situation, Romania's emergency authorities issued text alerts to residents in Tulcea on both nights, and NATO allies were kept informed about the developments.
