Russia expressed its approval of the Republican candidate for vice president, Sen. JD Vance's position on Ukraine during a press conference at the United Nations Security Council. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov welcomed Vance's stance, which advocates for peace and the cessation of aid to Ukraine. Lavrov stated that stopping the supply of weapons to Ukraine could lead to the end of the ongoing conflict.

JD Vance has been a vocal critic of providing military support to Ukraine in its efforts to defend itself against Russia. At the Munich Security Conference in February, Vance suggested that Ukraine should engage in negotiations with Russia, as he believes that the US and its allies should not continue to support Ukraine militarily.

Lavrov also mentioned that Russia is willing to collaborate with any American leader elected by the American people, as long as there is a commitment to fair and respectful dialogue. He highlighted that such dialogues were possible during the Trump administration, despite the imposition of economic and diplomatic sanctions on Russia during that time.

According to Lavrov, the sanctions war between the US and Russia began under the Obama administration but escalated during Trump's presidency. However, he noted that there was a level of dialogue between the two countries at the highest level during the Trump era, which is currently lacking.
