Russia issued a warning to the United States prior to the launch of its new mid-range ballistic missile, according to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov. The missile, known as 'Oreshnik,' was launched with a 30-minute advance notice sent through the National Nuclear Risk Reduction Center, which maintains constant communication with a similar system in the US.
The National Nuclear Risk Reduction Center, which has been in operation for 35 years, manages a bilateral line with Russia used for transmitting notifications related to arms control agreements such as the New Start Treaty.
Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that Moscow would provide warnings when deploying the new weapon. He stated that in the event of targeting locations in Ukraine with systems like 'Oreshnik,' efforts would be made to allow peaceful residents and citizens of friendly states to evacuate dangerous areas.
Putin highlighted the humanitarian aspect of these warnings, noting that the information would be shared openly and publicly, without concern for opposition from adversaries who would also receive the notifications.
