Russia has announced plans to dispatch special aircraft and 50 professional mountain rescuers to the crash site in northern Iran where a helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi went down on Sunday. The Iranian state news agency IRNA reported that two special Russian helicopters will be sent to the crash site from Armenia, following an order from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The tragic incident occurred in a northern region of Iran, involving the helicopter carrying President Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and several other officials. The search and rescue operations have been hampered by dense fog in the remote, mountainous East Azerbaijan Province. Additionally, extreme cold weather conditions are posing further challenges to the ongoing rescue efforts.
