Russell Wilson rejoins the Colorado Rockies for a day

For the first time in his professional career, quarterback Russell Wilson has a new NFL home. After forcing his way off the Seattle Seahawks to the team he helped defeat in Super Bowl XLVIII, Wilson has wasted no time ingratiating himself to the Mile High City.

With videos emerging from training camp and behind the scenes footage for promotional material, the country has gotten a taste of seeing Wilson in the Broncos’ navy and orange. Now we have a chance of seeing him in purple pinstripes.

Russell Wilson and Peyton Manning were at the ballpark to film a segment for Manning’s ESPN+ show “Peyton’s Places.” Of course, this isn’t Wilson’s first interaction with the Colorado Rockies. Wilson’s first foray into the world of professional sports came in 2010, when he was drafted in the fourth round by the Rockies.

Wilson played for two of Colorado’s minor league teams, Asheville Tourists in 2011 and Washington’s own Tri-City Dust Devils in 2010… where Wilson stands enshrined at Gesa Stadium in Pasco, WA in an usual monument.

Wilson has long had a flirtatious relationship with Major League Baseball. In 2013 the Texas Rangers acquired Wilson’s rights, and he played with the Rangers organizations for the next two springs. Eventually, Wilson’s rights were once again traded, only this time to the New York Yankees.

Although Wilson’s stints with the Rangers and Yankees were clearly publicity stunts to sell more Spring training tickets, it’s clear he had legitimate skills at the professional level. Perhaps there is an alternate timeline or universe where Wilson does not pursue a professional football career and chooses baseball instead.

Perhaps Matt Flynn fantasizes about that universe.

Side note, having two Hall of Fame caliber quarterbacks at Coors Field matched the number of runs scored by the Rockies in their loss to the Cleveland Guardians.
