Russell Wilson makes history by being traded to Broncos

The Seahawks are trading Russell Wilson to the Broncos and will be getting several draft picks and three players in return. There will be a million different angles to unpack in the coming days and weeks after a trade that will reshape both teams and the entire league – but the most important one is this: this franchise is about to go through a serious regression at the game’s most critical position.

While Denver is including their 25-year old quarterback Drew Lock as part of the deal, his game is flawed to the point where he was unable to beat out Teddy Bridgewater for the Broncos’ QB1 job this past season. That’s a major step down from Wilson, who’s arguably still a top-10 starter even in a down-year like 2021.

According to Andrew Sicilicano at NFL Network, Wilson is becoming the first quarterback to ever play for a team that he once beat in the Super Bowl.

That of course refers to the time the Seahawks won the Super Bowl by 35 points – now officially cemented in as the high-water mark for the Russell Wilson era.

We think No. 3 still has a lot of great football left in him and are glad to have covered him while we could.
