Russell Westbrook has hurt right thumb; X-rays negative

The Los Angeles Lakers may be getting on a roll. They have won three straight without LeBron James, who has been out for the last four contests with a strained adductor.

Los Angeles thrashed the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday, 123-92, in what was undoubtedly their best all-around performance of the season.

One factor in the team’s mini-spurt has been Russell Westbrook, who has injected the team with pace and energy in his new role off the bench.

He had 10 assists on Sunday, his fourth consecutive game with at least 10 dimes.

Unfortunately, he injured his right thumb during the contest. X-rays afterward were negative, but he will have the digit evaluated again Monday.

The last thing the Lakers need right now is another injury, especially with James out and his status for Tuesday’s tilt at the Phoenix Suns uncertain. Guard Dennis Schroder and center Thomas Bryant recently returned from thumb injuries of their own.
