Russell Martin tells Rangers fans 'I was crap' as he was pressed on Morgan Whittaker deal

Russell Martin has apologised to Rangers fans for being 'crap' in his time as a player at Ibrox - after he responded to online messages over the proposed Morgan Whittaker transfer from Swansea

Michael Beale wanted to bring in the Derby-born youngster in last month, confirming that the club had made a bid for the 22-year-old wingers who had been outstanding in a loan spell at Plymouth in the first half of the campaign.

Having excelled at Home Park earlier this season with nine goals in 25 games, Swansea recalled him, with Whittaker set to play a huge part in their Championship play-off push given Michael Obafemi's move to Burnley.

Former Scotland star Martin was on loan at Ibrox in 2018 when Graeme Murty was in charge and didn’t cover himself in glory, by his own admssion.

He said: “Morgan's back. The whole thing about Morgan, I've got a brilliant relationship with him.

"I hope that’ll show in the next three months. He understood why I wanted him to go out on loan and play football. The amount of work Josh did to stay in contact with him.

“He’s come back and not been frustrated with me, I didn't make the decision to call him back. Again, it’s not in my control. He’ll be in the squad tomorrow.

"I’ve had Rangers fans message me on Linkedin saying let him go. I apologised to them saying sorry I was crap at your club but it’s not my decision.”
