Russell Crowe unrecognisable with bulging belly and thinning hair for Roger Ailes role

Russell Crowe has doubled in size and lost his hair.

But don’t fear – it’s for his latest role as the late Fox News boss Roger Ailes.

Crowe, 54, looked unrecognisable as he was pictured bulging out of an ill-fitting suit as he walked the streets of New York with a cane.

The actor looked worlds away from his Gladiator days, sporting a double chin and thinning grey hair.

Crowe has undergone the dramatic transformation for Showtime’s upcoming series The Loudest Voice In The Room.

He will star alongside Seth McFarlane, Simon McBurney, Sienna Miller as his wife Elizabeth and Naomi Watts as Gretchen Carlson – a former Fox News anchor who filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against Mr Ailes.

The TV miniseries, set for release in 2019, will follow the rise and fall of the former chairman and CEO of Fox News in the US.

It is based on the bestselling book of the same name by Gabriel Sherman.

Mr Ailes was one of the most powerful men in television until his resignation in 2016 following sexual harassment allegations.

He died the following year after suffering a hematoma days after falling and hitting his head.

He was married three times, and divorced twice.
