Rush hour chaos on Elizabeth line between Paddington and Heathrow after fault

Commuters are facing rush hour chaos on the Elizabeth Line due to a faulty track, while Southeastern services have also been hit with delays.

The defective track in west London means Elizabeth Line services between Heathrow and Paddington may be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 minutes, passengers are being warned.

The disruption is expected to last until 12pm, with TfL warning during Wednesday’s rush hour of “severe delays” on the service.

The fault is also causing delays on Great Western Railway services to Paddington and on the Heathrow Express to-and-from the major airport.

Separately, a broken down train at London Victoria is delaying Southeastern services to-and-from the station, with disruption expected until at least 8.30am.

National Rail said a “broken down train” had blocked some tracks but that a rescue train has since moved the train, freeing up platforms to be used once again.

On the London Underground, there is no service between Leytonstone and Epping and between Hainault and Woodford in east London due to a trespasser on the track.

The Bakerloo and Metropolitan Lines were also running with delays as of 8am.

It comes as workers on the Elizabeth Line plan to go on strike on February 27, March 1, March 8, and March 10 in a row over pay.

The strike called by the Aslef union - on top of previous action on New Year’s Eve by RMT members - was called after drivers belonging to the union rejected a 4.5 per cent pay increase, according to the line’s managers.

The Elizabeth line is the busiest rail line in the UK and is used for more than 700,000 weekday journeys.
