It was a marriage that made headline across the world, but one that, according to reports, ended six-years later with an email. Rupert Murdoch and Jerry Hall's marriage came to an end, with the publishing mogul reportedly using just an 11-word sentence to break the news to his wife.
While Murdoch went on the expand on the sentence, a brutal email was the method the 92-year-old businessman used to confirm his decision to the former supermodel. It is understood Jerry Hall received the message while waiting to meet him at their home in Oxfordshire, a friend of Jerry's claims.
According to the pal, the message read: "Jerry, sadly I’ve decided to call an end to our marriage." It continued: "We have certainly had some good times, but I have much to do. My New York lawyer will be contacting yours immediately".
The divorce was reportedly initiated by the billionaire media magnate without any warning. Jerry Hall, 65, was his fourth wife. The pair married in March 2016 in central London. However, it was Hall’s first marriage after previously being in a long-term relationship with Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, with whom she shares four children.

Murdoch, who is reported to be worth £14.5 billion, has six children - but none with Hall. They include daughter Prudence MacLeod with his first wife Patricia Booker, daughter Elisabeth and sons Lachlan and James with his second souse Anna Mann, and daughter Chloe and Grace, who he shares with his third wife Wendi Deng.
News of the split first spread in June 2022. Almost one year on from their unexpected divorce, the new claims have emerged about the brutal way in which Murdoch went about informing his wife that he wanted their marriage to end, reported the Mirror.
Friends of Hall said she was 'blindsided' by the split, as the couple had 'never fought' and Murdoch's wife had stood by him and cared for him throughout several battles with illnesses. Despite this, it has been claimed that Hall was given just 30 days to move out of the couple’s mansion in Bel Air, California.
In a report by Vanity Fair, it is claimed that security guards are believed to have watched Hall pack her belongings at the couple’s Los Angeles home as she was 'helped by her children'. The divorce was finalised in August last year.
Last month, Murdoch shocked the showbiz world when he announced that he is engaged to be married, again, less than a year after he and Hall divorced. The billionaire and his soon-to-be wife, former police chaplain Ann Lesley Smith, met just seven months ago. At the time, Rupert opened up about the news admitting the he was quite nervous about getting down on one knee for the fifth time but had 'personally selected' the stunning ring.
He explained that he had 'dreaded falling in love' but was adamant this would be his 'last' relationship. On April 5, 2023, the BBC reported that Murdoch's engagment had been "abruptly called off" just "weeks after announcing it".
Murdoch owns The Sun and The Times newspapers in the UK, Fox News and The Wall Street Journal in the States and papers in his native Australia.
The Mirror has reached out to Murdoch and Hall's representatives for comment on this story.
