Rupert Grint says he would reprise Harry Potter role ‘if the timing was right’

Rupert Grint has said he would be keen to reprise his Harry Potter role if the “timing was right”.

The 34-year-old rose to fame playing Ron Weasley in 2002 when he starred in the first instalment of J. K. Rowling’s adaptations opposite Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe.

The Snatch actor was only 11 when he made his big screen debut, and went on to play the beloved character for eight films, before the film franchise came to an end in 2011.

In 2021, the trio reunited as they returned to Hogwarts for the franchise’s 20th anniversary at the Warner Bros Studios.

Although 12 years have passed since the final film, Potterheads have long hoped he and his co-stars would return to the roles that made them household names.

And now, Grint has hinted he’d be up to reprising his role during an appearance on Thursday’s (January 26) This Morning.

The actor told hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield: “Yeah, I think if the timing was right and everyone was kind of coming back, I would revisit.

“It’s a character that’s important to me and I grew up with him – we kind of became the same person.

“I feel quite protective of him as well. It was my whole childhood.”

Grint’s comments come almost a year after he revealed he had introduced his daughter Wednesday to the wizarding world of Harry Potter - and even gave her a wand.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in March, the talk show host said: “Now you have this beautiful baby and one day you’re going to show her these movies one day and say: ‘That’s daddy!’”

To which he responded: “I’ve already started showing her the trailers. She has a wand and a PEZ dispenser with my head on it.”

Grint welcomed his daughter, who was born in May 2020, with partner and fellow actor Georgia Groome.

Fans will next get to see the star in M. Night Shyamalan’s horror film Knock At The Cabin.
