If you are a fan of beloved family-themed sitcom The Brady Bunch (and who isn’t, after all?), you will certainly remember the episode titled “Will the Real Jan Brady Please Stand Up?” when troubled middle girl Jan (Eve Plumb) decides she needs a new look and buys a dark wig. Laugh track, please!
Of course, if you are a die hard fan of The Brady Bunch (a la this writer), no programming concept will ever surprise you as an excuse to gather the original clan back together. Everything from — deep breath — the singing Bradys hosting their own variety series (in The Brady Bunch Hour) and the two older girls getting married (in The Brady Brides) to an animated series (The Brady Kids) and a dramatic take on the clan (The Bradys) to TV and theatrical movies, a live show, a travel docuseries and, most recently, HGTV series A Very Brady Renovation has been done. So, why not get five of the six surviving stars (Barry Williams, Christopher Knight, Mike Lookinland, Eve Plumb and Susan Olsen) back and reunite them with RuPaul’s Drag Race where the drag queens cross over, using new technology to transport the cast into the original Brady house?
RuPaul, of course, is no stranger to The Brady Bunch. He had cameo appearances in The Brady Bunch Movie and A Very Brady Sequel in the mid-1990s. And, now, by reuniting the “bunch” (five of them, to be exact), retooled streamer Paramount+ is bound to garner the attention of the fans perennially hungry to see yet another reunion.
In celebration of Pride month, this new special, Dragging The Classics: The Brady Bunch, will feature Barry Williams, Christopher Knight and Mike Lookinland as Mike Brady, Peter Brady and Bobby Brady, respectively. Eve Plumb and Susan Olsen will also return as Lucy and Margie, respectively, two characters who appeared in the original episode. And, filling the gaps, will be All Stars 5 winner Shea Couleé as Marcia Brady, Drag Race season six winner Bianca Del Rio as Carol Brady, Ben DeLaCreme as Greg Brady and Kylie Sonique Love as Jan Brady. Additional participating Drag Race queens are Nina West as wisecracking housekeeper Alice and Kandy Muse as the true “youngest one in curls,” Cindy Brady.
Dragging The Classics: The Brady Bunch will be available for streaming on Paramount+ on Wednesday, June 30. And, while I can’t say for certain why original cast member Maureen McCormick is not appearing, I will speak for the fans and request a second installment of Dragging The Classics: The Brady Bunch in honor of Marcia being hit with a football. All together now...”Oh, my nose!”
