Jinkx Monsoon is set to have a major role in the new series of BBC's Doctor Who.
The two-time RuPaul’s Drag Race winner will be joining the hotly anticipated new series of the BBC science fiction show in a major role as returning Doctor David Tennant and new Doctor Ncuti Gatwa prepare for their own roles.
Jinkx said she was "honoured and thrilled" to be on the BBC show in the coming months, whilst showrunner Russell T Davies teased that Jinkx will make a "collision course with the TARDIS" and warned "things will never be the same again" following her arrival.
Jinkx Monsoon said: "I’m honoured, thrilled, and utterly excited to join Doctor Who! Russell T Davies is a visionary and a brilliant writer- I can’t wait to get into the weeds with him and the crew! I hope there’s room in the TARDIS for my luggage."
Whilst showrunner Russell T Davies added: "In a galaxy of comets and supernovas, here comes the biggest star of all. Jinkx Monsoon is on a collision course with the TARDIS, and Doctor Who will never be the same again!"
Jinkx was crowned Queen of Queens in a special All-Stars version of the hit drag show, where she came out on top after competing alongside other previous winners of the show.
She has also recently made her debut as Matron 'Mama' Morton in Chicago. She became the first drag queen to play the role of Mama Morton, breaking box office records in her eight-week run.
Doctor Who is set to return in November this year, with David Tennant taking on the role as the Fourteenth Doctor for three episodes to coincide with the BBC show's 60th anniversary. Ncuti Gatwa will make his debut as the Fifteenth Doctor over the festive period.
Of his return to the show, David previously revealed: "To be able to revisit that and to get another another shot, it was a total joy from start to finish. I thought it was something that I would certainly never be as involved in again... it's like being given the loveliest present. And I'm very, very excited. I'm thrilled and I hope people will enjoy the stories we've got to tell."
Teasing the lead-up to Gatwa's regeneration, showrunner Russell T Davies explained: "If you thought the appearance of David Tennant was a shock, we’ve got plenty more surprises on the way! The path to Ncuti’s Fifteenth Doctor is laden with mystery, horror, robots, puppets, danger and fun! And how is it connected to the return of the wonderful Donna Noble? How, what, why?"
Doctor Who will premiere on the BBC and for those outside the UK and Ireland, Disney+ will be the exclusive home for new seasons.
