Ruidoso Area Braces For More Rainfall And Potential Flooding

Flooding due to heavy rains in Rio Grande do Sul

After a day of severe thunderstorms that brought heavy rainfall to parts of New Mexico, the Ruidoso area faces the possibility of more rainfall on Thursday, as forecasted by the National Weather Service.

The region is currently grappling with a challenging situation as wildfires and floods pose a double threat to communities around Ruidoso. Evacuations have been necessary as two wildfires have converged on the area. While rain can aid firefighters in their efforts, it also raises concerns about flash flooding and debris flows, particularly in areas affected by recent fires.

Thursday's weather outlook includes the potential for scattered showers and thunderstorms, with wind gusts reaching up to 25 mph. If these storms intensify, there is a risk of further flooding in the region.

As Thursday progresses, residual moisture from the remnants of Tropical Storm Alberto is anticipated to move into the area, extending into Friday. This additional moisture could exacerbate the existing flood risk and impact the ongoing firefighting operations.

The community in and around Ruidoso is advised to stay informed about weather updates and heed any evacuation orders or warnings issued by local authorities. Preparedness and caution are crucial in navigating the evolving weather conditions and potential hazards in the area.
