Ruben Loftus-Cheek highlights 'good sign' despite what happened to Chelsea vs Manchester United

Ruben Loftus-Cheek remains in good spirits despite Chelsea conceding a very late equaliser to Manchester United on Saturday evening.

The 26-year-old, who has been in superb recent form for the Blues, started for the hosts at Stamford Bridge in a midfield two alongside Jorginho. Chelsea took the lead late on in west London with Jorginho converting a penalty after Armando Broja was pulled down inside the box.

It looked like Chelsea had done enough to secure three points but a brilliant header from Casemiro in the 94th minute ensured the match ended as a draw. The last five Premier League fixtures between the two sides have now ended as draws, with Chelsea not beating United in the league since November 2017.

Chelsea, though, remain unbeaten under Graham Potter – who has now won five and drawn three of his opening eight games as head coach of the Blues. Loftus-Cheek, when speaking to the club's official website, was disappointed with what happened but he could take the many positives from the performance.

"It was scrappy, both teams weren't clean on the ball," the Chelsea midfielder said. "It was just one of those games but I thought we had it [the win], we were defending well and then to be honest I don't know how Casemiro's got the power on that header to send it up and down. It feels like a defeat."

Loftus-Cheek added: "We had to win the duels, both teams went toe to toe like that and sometimes it is what happens in these games. There's two sides to the game and you have to do both if you want to be a good team.

"We want to match any team that comes here and it was unlucky for us to concede in the last minute. But we're not losing, we're winning and we are drawing which is a good sign.

"We want to be solid as a team first, that's the foundation going forward. You want to be good defensively and then on top of that have a freedom and a flow to go and score goals and create. That's the next step."

Next up for Chelsea is a trip to Austria to face Red Bull Salzburg on Tuesday for their penultimate Champions League group game. After that, Potter returns to the Amex Stadium to face his former club Brighton & Hove Albion next Saturday.
