Ruben Amorim elaborates on why Marcus Rashford was omitted from his Man Utd plans

Ruben Amorim believed Marcus Rashford struggled to adjust to his preferred playing and training methods, leading to the decision to part ways with the homegrown Manchester United forward.

The 27-year-old featured in the first six matches under Amorim's management, but was notably left out of the squad for the Manchester derby in mid-December.

Following that eye-catching omission, Rashford expressed his desire for a fresh challenge during an interview with renowned journalist Henry Winter.

The England international's absence from the United squad persisted after the December 12 Europa League match against Viktoria Plzen, marking the start of a lengthy period of speculation regarding his future.

After seven weeks of uncertainty, Rashford completed a loan move to Aston Villa, with an option to make the transfer permanent for a reported £40million. This proposed fee highlights a significant shift in his career, considering that just 18 months prior Rashford had signed a lucrative new contract with United.

Amorim has even insinuated he would rather select United's goalkeeper coach than use Rashford despite his alternative big-money attacking options failing to find the net regularly.

“I couldn’t put Marcus to see the way you’re supposed to play football and to train the way I see it,” Amorim said.

“And sometimes you have one player that is really good with one coach, and the same player with another coach is different.

“I just wish the best to Rashford and to Unai Emery, and they can connect because he’s a very good player.”

When asked if Rashford disagreed with Amorim’s football ideas, the Manchester United manager responded: “You know, like me, that it’s not the way that occurs.

“It’s something that you feel as a coach and as a player. It’s quite normal. It happened with a lot of coaches.

“The important thing is that I’m here saying that was my decision, like Ty [Malacia] and Antony was my decision to do these loans, and to keep some players even without any transfers.”
