RTE viewers all saying the same thing after first episode of new crime show Clean Sweep

RTE viewers were all saying the same thing after first episode of new crime show Clean Sweep aired on Sunday night.

The new six-part crime series follows a killer, Shelly Mohan, played by actress Charlene McKenna, who has been hiding in plain sight for nearly twenty years.

Shelly leads a seemingly normal life as a mother-of three and home-maker in the west of Ireland with a Garda detective husband, Jason - until an ex arrives on the scene, threatening to expose her past.

The first episode had an average of 315,500 viewers across RTE One and RTE One +1 and a 24% share - but viewers had some strong opinions to share.

During the first episode, 'Charlie', a man from her past, shows up calling her 'Mags' rather than Shelly. However, viewers were distracted from the plot as their eyes were drawn to the actor's large and "fake" facial hair.

One viewer wrote on Twitter: "That's the fakest looking beard ever #CleanSweep."

Another person said: "Watching #cleansweep on RTE Player. Already the ridiculous fake beard has me going "ah here!'."

And a third commented: "#CleanSweep That beard is as unbelievable as the plot."

The official synopsis from RTE on the show explains: "This six-part family crime series is told from the point of view of Shelly Mohan, a wife, mother, homemaker and killer hiding in plain sight.

"Her days are filled with cooking, cleaning, shopping and chauffeuring, shuttling three kids (Rhys Mannion, Katelyn Rose Downey, Aidan McCann) from schools to activities, volunteering on the PTA with fellow stay-at-home-parent Matt (Trevor Kaneswaren) and somehow still managing to have a home-cooked meal on the table by the time her garda detective husband Jason (Barry Ward) arrives home every night.

"Her chaotic yet happy life is put in jeopardy when Shelly is confronted by an ex-lover (Adam Fergus) who threatens to expose her murderous past."

Clean Sweep airs Sunday nights on RTÉ One and the RTÉ Player at 9.30pm.
