RTE Toy Show star Adam King recovering after surgery as Michael Martin sends special tribute

An RTE Toy Show star received a special get-well tribute from Micheál Martin after undergoing surgery on his legs.

Adam King, who became a household name with his adorable appearance on the Toy Show in 2020, is recovering at home in Cork as the operation was a "major success".

Many people, including the Tánaiste, wished the young boy a "speedy recovery" after his family issued an update on his social media.

A post on his official Twitter page said: "Adam had a scheduled surgery yesterday to get rods replaced in both his legs.

"It was major success and we're delighted to share he's recovering at home. Thanks so much to everyone @CUH_Cork for the amazing work you do. Please if you can support @CUHCharity."

Tánaiste Micheál Martin replied, writing: "Adam, just wanted to wish you a speedy recovery after your surgery.

"And a special thank you to the staff at @CUH_Cork for all their amazing care. I hope to see you and the family again soon."

The Late Late Toy show star Adam King won over the nation during the pandemic with his virtual “hug for you” message that resonated with so many and brought the nation together.

On the show, Adam shared his ambition to work for NASA and captured the attention of the space agency.

The young star got messages of support from high-profile astronauts and US and EU space agencies.

NASA responded and tweeted: “Adam’s kind heart and adventurous spirit inspires us. There’s space for everybody at NASA, and we can’t wait for him to one day join our team of dreamers. We’ll be here when he’s ready.”

Adam suffers from a brittle bone condition, Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI for short), which is a rare, lifelong genetic condition of bone and connective tissue.

He uses a wheelchair and has become a champion for all young people who use mobility aids, writing several award-winning books with his dad David, that have told his story.
