RTE Tommy Tiernan viewers gush over 'inspirational' Parkinson's disease advocate Annmarie O'Connor

RTE viewers have hailed fashion stylist, editor and Parkinson's disease campaigner Annmarie O'Connor for her "inspirational" interview on the Tommy Tiernan show tonight.

The brave Cork native revealed her battle with Parkinson's disease and how she was diagnosed with the neurological condition in December 2021. She told Tommy: "I was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in December 2021, during lockdown I noticed a pain in my shoulder that became a shooting pain."

Annmarie then developed a tremor followed by other symptoms like restless legs syndrome. When asked if she finds her condition humiliating, Annmarie replied that she does not because she is "really stubborn."

Annmarie added: "I'm really stubborn, I come from a long lineage of west of Ireland women. I' am not a victim and that's why I draw attention to it and that's why I don't want people to feel like they have to hide."

She added: "I’m never going to outrun it. It’s always going to be the spectre that’s hanging over your life. I’m gonna fight it as much as I can….and all you can do is your best."

Social media users were quick to praise Annmarie for her bravery. One person wrote: "Such a positive, inspirational lady, loving the style as well."

A second said: "I make a great cocktail" what a great attitude to have towards a horrible illness #tommytiernanshow." A third added: "What an inspirational intelligent lady. Huge admiration but also thanks for her mind and for telling her story."

A fourth commented: "What a powerful Parkinson's advocate you are@aocdotme. Keep up your Taurean spirit."

Other social media users also praised host Tommy Tiernan for his "class and sensitivity" during the interview. One person commented: "Incredible how good Tommy is at this. How he know when just to say very little and let the guest speak. Hi makes the show about the guest, not about him, unlike most other hosts."

A second added: "Classy interview by Tommy Tiernan with just the right sensitivity. Great interview." A third said: "That was a masterclass in how to interview someone."
