RTE's Ryan Tubridy praises Dublin shops giving free essentials to Ukrainians

Ryan Tubridy paid a visit to the brand new charity shop in Dublin city centre which has been set up to provide free essentials to Ukrainian refugees such as clothes, food, toys and baby items.

The Palyantsya centre is located on Dublin's Clarendon Street and was established by Art of Coffee owner Ruslan Mocharskyy, a Ukrainian native who has been in Ireland for a number of years.

Since the Russian invasion of his home country, Ruslan has been busy organising aid and sending trucks to Poland with essential supplies.

Sharing a snap of himself and Ruslan at the shop on Instagram, Ryan Tubridy praised the business owner for his efforts in helping our "new Ukrainian friends".

The RTE star said: "Ruslan is bowed over by the generosity on display. Hopefully big retailers will get involved and drop off much needed baby clothes and accessories."

Palyantsya opened its doors on March 24 and the shop called out for applicants to offer their time to help at the store, including six managers, floor staff, security guards, plasterers and renderers to tidy up wall snags and cleaners.

As well as stocks of free essentials, there are also plans for an information centre at Palyantsya where Ukrainians who have recently arrived into Ireland can get advice and answers to their questions. Ruslan also hopes to install a hairdressing service in the space.

Earlier this month, Ryan hosted a special edition of The Late Late Show which was dedicated to Ukraine.

The host left viewers in tears with an emotional speech at the beginning of the show in which he called on the Irish people to give what they can.

Addressing viewers, he said: "With a million lost souls having been chased by Putin's missiles, we stand with the millions who are left in cellars, sewers and facing a long night of terror ahead of them. We stand against want and aggression, against blind violence to threaten democratic Europe."
