The RTE star said: “It’s 2:25pm and there’s a naked man, he’s just after stripping naked – I don’t know what programme – this is at 2:15pm in the day – there is a naked man, a fine looking man to be honest with you, but hang on, it gets worse.
“He’s after stripping naked, he takes off his briefs and he holds them up to this woman, they’re in their late 20s and what does she do next, Angela? Brace yourself – she takes out a pair of handcuffs. This is RTE One television at 2:20pm.
“No wonder Ryan is leaving,” he told listeners.
He then followed up telling listeners of the show, referencing Normal People when it was described as a “porno”.
“At 2pm, which is the porno I was watching as Mary said on the day, we were watching Normal People, is called Shortland Street. This is the one with the naked man holding his black boxers, the woman in the frame – both of them extraordinarily attractive. She handcuffs him and then after that is The Goodbye House – is that Daithi and Maura?,” he quipped.
“Then after that is EastEnders. That was the programme if you want to watch it – it’s called Shortland Street.”
A rep for RTE has been contacted for comment.
In 2020, Liveline had arguably the most famous episode ever.
A number of viewers rang in to Joe to voice their displeasure at Normal People on April 30.
An elderly lady called Mary said: "I'm sure the novel was very good, I'm sure it came across as about a very disturbed teenage girl.
"I imagined it was like something you would expect to see in a porno movie, certainly wasn't for family viewing."
Another called Tommy said regarding nudity: "It's giving the wrong message to young people, I have two young daughters and they think that is going on in secondary schools. It is shocking."
Two weeks after that, Joe jokingly tweeted that he was “calling in sick” after another episode of the hit show saw the “longest-ever sex scene” in the history of RTE.
