Shane Byrne and his pro partner, Karen Byrne became the fifth celebrity couple to leave Dancing with the Stars tonight.
On his departure from the competition, Shane said: “It's been fantastic. Life is all about experiences and this was one hell of an experience.”
It was a special night in the studio for Orchestra week this week, so the RTÉ Concert Orchestra was there to play each piece of music live as each couple put on their best show in the hopes of staying in the competition.
The celebrity and pro dancers opened the competition tonight, showcasing their skills on the dancefloor to ‘I Got Rhythm’.
Then, as the audience at home was given the go-ahead to start voting, the pro dancers gave a memorable performance to Blue Monday by New Order.
Once the results were in, Shane Byrne and Karen Byrne along with Panti Bliss and Denys Samson were revealed as the pairing with the lowest combined scores so each couple got a second chance to stay in the competition.
Afterward, the judges decided that it was time for Shane Byrne and Karen Byrne to leave the competition.
Viewers were left very disappointed with the ex-rugby player’s exit and have been taking to Twitter in droves to wish him well.
One viewer wrote: “Disappointed Shane has gone. He still had a lot to offer in the competition I think. #DWTSIRL”
“Devo. gonna miss Shane and Karen next week. Such fun, so genuine, and lovely. #dwtsirl,” another said.
A third added: “Aw I’ll miss @shanebyrneoffic. Well done Shane, you should be very proud. You were FANTASTIC. #DWTSIRL”
Among the hundreds of messages online, a fourth said: “Thank you Shane for all the memories this season you’ve been brilliant #DWTSIRL”
