Posting a picture featuring a gorgeous bouquet of flowers, she wrote: “Just want to say a quick thank you to the many keen-eyed @rtenews viewers who have been in touch with good wishes.

“Well spotted! I am indeed expecting some more news of my own later this year.”

The ex-Washington Correspondent returned to Ireland back in 2018 and has held her post on the Six One News since then.

Among the reams of messages congratulating the Caitriona and her husband were TV producer Maia Dunphy who wrote: “Oh that’s wonderful news.”

Meanwhile, RTE weather and National Lottery Presenter Nuala Carey said: “Congratulations Caitriona, wonderful news.”

Other viewers at home also hinted that they were expected the news, as one person wrote: “Warmest congrats, eagle eye up here in Donegal too.”

A second person wrote: “Congratulations Caitriona - indeed spotted on Six-One the other day. Looking great.”

Another said: “Congrats Caitriona, my Mam said it yesterday evening she suspected you were expecting when she saw you reporting from Sligo.”
