RTE Room to Improve fans have strong opinions on one feature of 1950s council house makeover

Room To Improve viewers were left impressed by the latest transformation on the popular show as it returned to RTE One on Sunday night.

Star architect Dermot Bannon was working with Dublin couple Ross and Caitriona Boxshall who had bought their 1950s former council home in 2017 for €327,000.

Dermot managed to pull off a completely modern makeover of the home in Lucan, complete with an en-suite and walk-in wardrobe into the master bedroom and an elegant new kitchen.

While they were on a strict budget of €195,500, later upped to €241,000, Dermot managed to deliver the dream home at a total cost of €260,000 - around €19,000 over budget.

Some fans called this their "favourite" episode of Room To Improve and hailed Dermot a "genius" for the unique design layout.

One person said: "I think tonight’s #roomtoimprove house is the best I’ve seen. A fairly normal house, creative people, and a really innovative layout."

Some people called the mirror splash back behind the sink "impractical" (RTE)

Another commented: "Another genius home by @DermotBannon, wishing the family great joy in their forever home."

A third added: "Gonna make a bold statement here. This is my favourite #RoomToImprove house of all time."

However, there was one aspect of the modern-style kitchen that viewers felt strongly about - with some calling the mirror splash back behind the sink "impractical".

One person said: "I'm going to say the mirror glass splashback can't be practical #RoomToImprove."

Another person added: "I’m genuinely unable to sleep thinking about how much cleaning that mirrored splashback is going to take.. #RoomToImprove."

A third joked: "Windowlene will [make] a fortune with the splashback! It did turn out fab though #RoomToImprove."
