RTE Prime Time viewers have been left split after a heated debate between Minister of State Kieran O’Donnell and Sinn Fein TD Lousie O’Reilly the end to the eviction ban.

On the programme, Louise O’Reilly TD said government should use the eviction ban to "buy time" but accused them of no action in the intervening time.

Minister of State at the Department of Housing Kieran O’Donnell hit back saying that 10,000 social units had been put in place.

RTE viewers weighed in with their thoughts on the debate with one saying they were 'sick' at the state the country was in.

One person wrote on Twitter: “You know we’re in the middle of a #housing s*** show when every TV and radio debate ends in a shouting match rather than any creative ideas #rtept”

A second added: “It makes me sick at the state of Ireland is in lately. There is no hope for the new generation in this country for the future. #rtept”

A third said: “Who can afford to buy one house in Dublin? Never mind a second as a rental property. Maybe that’s part of the issue! #rtept”
