RTE Prime Time viewers left annoyed after ‘painful’ inflation debate

RTE Prime Time viewers were left peeved after a heated debate between Minister Paschal Donohoe and Sinn Fein TD Pearse Doherty.

Tonight’s conversation was focused on the package of supports announced by the government this evening to help citizens with the rising cost of living.

Among the measures announced on Thursday were €200 off energy bills next month, a 20% drop in Public Transport costs, an extra €125 in fuel allowance, and the Drug Payment Scheme will decrease to €80 to name a few.

The measures brought in have been contested by Sinn Fein in the hours after the announcement. They say that people who don’t need the extra income are receiving it while those most in need will continue to struggle.

Viewers were divided on whether or not they were content with the changes, but all seemed to agree on one thing after the show.

During the interview, Paschal Donohoe fought back against Doherty’s comments, but viewers were left angry at the aggressive debate with one person commenting: “You actually wouldn’t even know what they’re on about. Just constant interrupting.. Not exactly easy watching.”

Another wrote: “Miriam and Paschal, interrupting in pairs again on RTE, both must have rehearsed their questions and responses earlier.”

A third said: “Minister gets a free, uninterrupted run. @PearseDoherty interrupted at every hand’s turn both by the presenter and the Minister.”

A fourth simply responded to the show writing: “That was actually painful.”
