RTE Prime Time viewers don't hold back after controversial Miriam O'Callaghan interview

RTE Prime Time viewers didn't hold back after a top lawyer shared the HSE's response to the families affected by the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAHMS) controversy in Kerry.

A review into care of children at a HSE-run mental health service in south Kerry found 46 youngsters suffered significant harm.

Taoiseach Micheal Martin has described the report as "shocking" and has said there will now be a full audit nationwide of compliance with CAMHS operation guidelines by all CAMHS teams.

The review into the care of more than 1,300 children at a service in south Kerry found that 227 children received “risky” treatment and 46 came to significant harm through a doctor's diagnosis.

And on Prime Time on Thursday night Miriam O'Callaghan spoke to solicitor Keith Rolls, who is representing a number of children and families affected by the controversy.

Viewers were left furious after the lawyer claimed that the HSE has not followed up on some patients - and one still hadn't even received an apology.

Mr Rolls explained: "They've received apologies and they've welcomed the apologies but actions speak louder than words here, none of my clients have received any treatment plans, they're left in a state of limbo, a lot of my clients haven't received any follow-up appointments, some of my clients haven't even received apologies.

"I was speaking to a woman today where she couldn't attend this apology meeting that I was attending with my clients, due to family circumstances she wasn't able to get to Killarney to meet with the HSE.

"She hasn't received any follow-ups, no phone call, no Zoom meeting to tell her what's happened. Is she one of those significant concern cases? She has no idea, she has had no contact.

"Another client today whose whole file is missing, ten years of medical treatment, rang me today and she said, 'Why don't I get an apology, all these side effects that have been mentioned in the media, that's me Keith, why haven't I received any 'sorry''. She's so angry.

"Any future treatment she's going to get in the future is severely compromised, nobody knows what medication she has been on, and no efforts. there are no records, It can't be a comprehensive report if the HSE don't have the records at their disposal."

And RTE viewers didn't hold back after the interview, with one writing on social media: "Mental health services in Ireland are a disgrace, whether public or private..both sectors are the same mess."

While another added: "Will we ever learn?

"Yet again the citizens will foot the bill for the gross incompetence and cover-up at the heart of this "latest" scandal. Heads need to start rolling or the cycle will continue. If they can demand lottery style salaries we can demand accountability."

While a third added: "This is so terribly sad and I think it’s only the tip of the iceberg."

Here is all of the best of the social media reaction:
