RTE Liveline listeners hear man 'attacked' by gang of youths slam 'crime culture' in Ballyfermot

A man who has spoken out about being assaulted by 10-15 teenagers in Ballyfermot last week has slammed the "crime culture" in the area.

Ante Skojo, aged in his 30's, was walking home from work along the Ballyfermot Road at around 9pm last Thursday when he passed a group of teenagers. He said he heard a "big laughter" come from the group and the situation escalated.

Speaking to RTE Liveline, Ante explained that one of the group came to the right side of him and repeatedly said 'buddies, buddies, buddies'. He said: "I tried to ignore them but then all of a sudden I felt a punch in the back of my head.

"There were punches following them saying 'buddies, buddies', to the back, side and front of my head. I went into the garden of one of the houses on my left hand side and I leaned against the car to protect the back of my head.

"I raised my hands to protect my face. After about five to ten minutes, they were gone. I was so shocked, I was thinking that I was going to die.

"There was no reason, no arguments, it was for pure fun. It was utter violence."

Ante said an elderly man assisted him following the attack. "He asked if I was okay and said he heard the screams but wasn't sure what was happening," he said.

"I told him I was attacked and punched all over the face. He was kind enough to point me in the direction of the garda station to report the attack."

Ante said he has injuries on his forehead, under his right eye and on the top of his head.

"There is a series of incidents happening in Ballyfermot and the local community," he said. "I hope something is done about this because I am moving out of the area, I am afraid for my safety. There is a crime culture there."

A garda spokeswoman told Dublin Live: "Gardai are investigating an assault on a man in his 30’s that is reported to have occurred in Ballyfermot Road, Ballyfermot, Dublin 10 at approximately 21:30 on the 13th October 2022. The male was injured during the course of the incident. No arrests have been made. Investigations ongoing."
