RTE legend Charlie Bird to team up with Mick McCarthy for charity parachute jump

Charlie Bird has revealed he is taking on yet another challenge for charity, this time with former Ireland football manager Mick McCarthy by his side.

The former RTE journalist took to Twitter to tell his followers about his “mad idea” of a parachute jump.

In the video, he announced that he and Mick would be taking on the challenge in July to raise even more money for charity.

With his beloved dog Tiger sat on his lap Charlie said: “Yes, you have read correctly, Mick McCarthy, the former Irish soccer manager.

"There is an interesting story to this but that is for another time. I am just looking for one sponsor to make it happen.”

This comes after the hugely successful Climb with Charlie event that took place back in April.

The Croagh Patrick climb managed to raise over €3 million for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and Pieta, Ireland’s national suicide prevention charity.

Charlie had even more good news to share in the video as an additional €100,000 is soon to be donated to the cause.

“And more good news,” he continued, “my great pal John Fitzpatrick, the hotelier in New York is about to add another €100,000 to the total which could soon be heading for three and a quarter million euro.”

This will bring the total money raised over a staggering €3.25 million.
