RTE Late Late Show viewers salute Lisa Fallon for sharing 'powerful' story of teenage assault

RTE Late Late Show viewers have saluted Lisa Fallon after she bravely opened up on being assaulted as a teenager.

The well-known Irish coach was on tonight's latest episode alongside Ryan Tubridy, and she shared her story of an attack she suffered as a teenager.

Fallon opened up on a night when she was 18-years-old, she was grabbed by her hair taken by a man in a car to a field before eventually escaping and seeking help.

She described feeling like she would never see anyone again and said the incident changed her as a person.

Fallon hopes that sharing her story can help others and address violence against women in Ireland.

One viewer said: "Bravo Lisa. You're not alone."

"What a class act @lisafallonsport. Inspirational," another added on Twitter.

"Lisa Fallon is an impressive woman. Great insight and understanding," one said.

A viewer added: "Have to commend Lisa Fallon for being such a powerful woman not just in the world of sport but in the everyday world as well."

Fallon also shared stories from her remarkable career in football as well as her new role with the sport's governing body FIFA.

Fallon is a name known to many in Irish footballing circles and is among the most respected coaches in the country.

Boasting her UEFA pro licence, Fallon has been involved in a number of teams both in England and Ireland as well as the Dublin Gaelic footballers.

And through her footballing duties, Fallon has also been recruited as a regular pundit on RTE to give expert insight at live broadcasted games.

She coached Cork City and successfully worked with John Caulfield as Cork won the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division and FAI Cup double in 2017, FAI Cup in 2016 and three President’s Cups.

Fallon then moved to Chelsea where she worked as an analysis and strategy coach and won the WSL and Continental League Cup double in 2020 before taking over London City Lionesses as head coach.

Fallon also worked with Jim Gavin and the Dublin footballers in 2018 as they won their fourth All-Ireland title in a row.

In January 2021, Fallon reunited with John Caulfield at Galway United and was appointed First Team Head Coach.

She left her post the end of 2021 to take up a role in Fifa’s high performance department.
