RTE Late Late Show: Ladbrokes suspend betting on new host as Claire Byrne a 'done deal'

Ladbrokes is no longer taking bettings on the new Late Late Show host as Claire Byrne remains a strong contender for the position.

The bookies said that they were pulling the bettings due to media reports that suggest Claire Byrne is a "done deal" for the role. The broadcaster was previously the bookies favourite to secure the gig, with odds of 1/3.

Other people tipped for the role included Sarah McInerney at 3/1 and Angela Scanlon at 5/1. Rumours that the next Late Late Show host is set to be a woman have been rife since Ryan Tubridy announced he was stepping down as host this May.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: All the signs are pointing in the direction of Claire Byrne when it comes to The Late Late Show. Along with news reports, we witnessed a rush of bets in favour of Byrne first thing this morning despite her short odds. As a result, we have decided to suspend betting on the market for the time being.”

However, BoyleSports is still taking bettings as speculation rises. Kathryn Thomas made a surprise move up the list of contenders recently, with odds of 5/1 in her favour.

Male presenters have not fully been ruled out of the equation either. Baz Ashmawy is the most likely man to take on the Late Late show gig as he chalked up at 16/1.
