RTE Fair City star Rebecca Grimes wishes the soap would scrap Covid rules on set

Fair City’s Rebecca Grimes has said it would be great if rules on set were relaxed so fellow cast members could get closer with each other.

The Dubliner, who plays Hayley Collins, is set to rise temperatures on the RTE One soap on Thursday when she hooks up with Cian, Dearbhla's boyfriend after Cian doesn't get the attention he wants from Dearbhla.

But Rebecca joked she’s hoping Carrigstown will start relaxing its social distancing rules on set so cast members can get a bit closer.

Speaking to The Star, the actress said: "We are still social distancing. It’s hard to know (when Covid-19 rules will be relaxed). "I’m not in this week. I was in last week and we were all still adhering to all the regulations.

"It will be really interesting to see what happened over the coming weeks. "It would be great if we could have a little bit more interaction with each other. “I suppose it’s the case that if one person gets it, then the scriptwriters have to be involved again and rewrite it again.

“I don’t really know what is going to happen. I’ll have to wait and see but hopefully we do go back to normal because a smooch is always welcome,” she said laughing.

Under Fair City set rules viewers won’t see cast members locking lips on screen but Rebecca hopes they abandon that rule soon enough.

Speaking about her upcoming storyline, she said: “It’s a bit of light distraction. She’s had so much going on with Ger abandoning her again and leaving her in the lurch with the pub. She’s had so much going on.

“It’s a welcomed distraction to have a bit of flirtation with the handsome Cian."

Rebecca said she is completely comfortable with romantic scenes.

“You want to be able to tell the story in the best way as possible…. It’s such a shame that that has to come into it (Covid-19 rules)

“I think it’s always been very respectful and safe in anything I’ve done. I’ve had to do nude scenes in stuff before and I’ve never felt uncomfortable. It’s always been treated with the respect and the care it deserves.”

Opening up if there is long lasting love on the horizon for Hayley, Rebecca said: “I don’t think anyone is running off into the sunset.”

“She doesn’t do great (with love). But don’t expect any wedding bells anytime soon with Hayley and Cian, it is very much fun and distraction.

"She’s going through so much with her mum disappearing, clearing out the bank accounts. Hayley is at sea and lost and I think she’s just really enjoying the distraction and attention from Cian. It’ll be short lived.”
