RTE Fair City fans bewildered as actress mysteriously replaced

Viewers watching Fair City this month were bewildered after an actress was mysteriously replaced.

Lauren Kinsella joined the show last year to play the role of Zoe Allen, who is currently in the middle of the drama between James Rafferty and the new development site.

She was also central to Dermot Fahey's return to Carrigstown and his subsequent departure after Cian Howley died.

But in scenes airing recently, Zoe was recast - with the character now played by actress Connie Doona.

It left viewers confused, but RTE has moved to explain what happened.

In a statement issued to RSVP Live, a spokesperson said: "We had to recast the actor who plays Zoe, which can happen from time to time on Fair City.

"Connie Doona is now playing Zoe Allen, Lauren Kinsella previously played this role."

This week, Zoe made things official with local teen heartthrob Alex Petrosian after a few weeks of flirting between them.

But he put his foot in it when he said his mum Melanie was too good to work in the launderette, where Zoe currently works.

Zoe was previously dating James Rafferty after he hired her as a sugar baby last summer.

James was later attacked and Zoe was a possible suspect.

Zoe was also in the frame for killing Cian Howley, the death that forced Dermot Fahey to flee from Dublin so he didn't end up in prison for the crime.

Fair City airs on RTE One every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday evening.
