RTE Dancing With The Stars' Aengus Mac Grianna wants to return to telly

Dancing With The Stars' Aengus Mac Grianna has said he would love to return to telly despite being booted from the show over the weekend.

The RTE legend said it would be “wonderful” to land another gig.

Aengus said: “I have no idea where… If there will be any future in TV, I’m not saying that there won’t be at the moment.

“I have literally finished college, this came along, this gave me something that was complete fun, whether there is television in the future, I don’t know yet.

“If there is, that would be wonderful. I would certainly enjoy it because it’s a trade I know well but who knows.”

Aengus, who was paired with pro dancer Emily Barker failed to impress audiences on Sunday with his jive to Billy Joel’s All Shook Up.

But he said despite his run on DWTS coming to a premature end, he will still be busy. Aengus added: “I had a great dance, I had great fun. I wanted the experience, why would I be sad? I’ve always been busy no matter what I was doing so I think next week will be busy for me in a different way.

“There will be house chores, farm chores, there is always something to do. I’ll keep going.”

He said he had a new appreciation for dancing after his experience.

The former newsman revealed: “They asked me when I was in Trinity but obviously, I was too busy studying at the time so I finished the Masters in October and training started at the end of November so I thought it was perfect timing.

“Having been so sedentary studying all the time and then having the chance to move into something that was fun, that was different for me.

“It was a complete break from what I consider as work and a time to have a lot of fun.

“What I would take away is the joy of learning dances and being able to bring those dances to performances.

“So now there is about three or four dances that I’ve done and that was a sheer joy, sharing the joy with other people as well who are on the same learning experience and then being in awe of just people who were able to move in a way that I knew that I would never be able to move.

“I think my appreciation for dance has increased fourfold. It’s way up there.”

Aengus, who married Terry Gill in 2014, joked he’s glad he was never part of the “Strictly curse” where celebs and dancers become romantically linked.

He said: “They used to joke. People said what about Aengus and Emily, I’d say that wouldn’t be the curse of Strictly, that would be the miracle of Strictly.”
